Battery-only installs
A home battery without solar panels
You do not need solar to have a home battery. A battery can charge when electricity costs less and supply your home when it costs more. REST fits Duracell home batteries at homes without solar panels, and can talk you through other options. REST also adds batteries to solar systems you already have.

It depends on the gap between your cheaper and dearer electricity prices, how much you use at the dearer times and the cost of the system. A battery on its own does not generate electricity and savings are not guaranteed, so ask for a quote that shows its assumptions.
Qualifying battery installations, including a standalone battery that stores grid electricity, are currently zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, when the rate is scheduled to change to 5%. Our solar VAT deadline guide explains how deposits and install dates affect this.
Yes. A compatible battery can charge from the grid during selected tariff periods and discharge later. The financial result depends on your tariff, usage pattern, system settings and battery losses.
Only when the system includes compatible backup hardware and has been designed for backup operation. Standard battery storage does not automatically mean the whole property will remain powered.
