How REST UK uses information and how this website may be used

Privacy policy and website terms

This notice explains the personal information REST UK may collect through enquiries, quotations, installations, referrals, recruitment and website use.

Clear information

Written for the REST UK website and reviewed when services, suppliers or legal requirements change.

1. Who we are

Renewable Energy Services Team Ltd, trading as REST UK, is the organisation responsible for the personal information described in this notice. The company is registered in England and Wales under company number 11426161. Its registered office is Elias House, Brymore Road, Canterbury, England, CT1 1HP.

Privacy enquiries can be sent to info@rest-uk.com or raised by calling 03305 202053.

2. Information we may collect

Depending on your relationship with REST, this may include:

  • names, addresses, postcodes and contact details;
  • property, roof, electricity-use and proposed system information;
  • quotation, survey, contract, installation, warranty and customer-care records;
  • payment information and finance application information where you ask to explore finance;
  • communications, call notes, photographs, monitoring screenshots and documents you provide;
  • installer, supplier, media, referral or employment-related information;
  • website device, consent and usage information collected through cookies or similar technologies.

REST does not need you to submit unnecessary sensitive personal information through general website forms.

Ask REST website assistant. If you use the Ask REST assistant, the questions you type are processed automatically to find an answer from REST's own website content. The assistant does not make decisions about you and does not use an artificial-intelligence model to write its answers. Your conversation is not stored by REST unless you choose to leave your details: if you do, the details you enter and your most recent question are saved as an enquiry and handled like any other website enquiry. We may keep anonymised records of questions the assistant could not answer, with email addresses, phone numbers and postcodes removed, so that we can improve it. Your IP address may be used briefly to protect the assistant and its forms from misuse. Please do not type sensitive personal information into the chat. A copy of your conversation is also kept in your own browser for up to two hours, as explained in our cookie policy.

3. Why we use personal information

REST may use information to:

  • respond to enquiries and take steps requested before a contract;
  • assess, design, quote, survey, schedule, install, commission and support a renewable-energy system;
  • manage payments, warranties, certification, DNO communication, consumer-protection registration and aftercare;
  • introduce a customer to a finance provider when the customer asks to explore finance;
  • handle complaints, safety matters, legal claims and regulatory obligations;
  • assess installer-network, supplier, media, referral and recruitment submissions;
  • improve website security, performance and customer service;
  • send marketing where there is a valid lawful basis and provide a clear opt-out.

4. Lawful bases

The lawful basis depends on the activity. REST may rely on:

  • contract or steps before contract for quotations, surveys, installation and support requested by a customer;
  • legal obligation for tax, accounting, consumer-credit, safety, certification and regulatory requirements;
  • legitimate interests for proportionate business administration, service improvement, fraud prevention, network security, customer care and defending legal claims;
  • consent where required, including certain marketing and non-essential cookies.

Where consent is used, it can be withdrawn without affecting earlier lawful processing.

5. Who information may be shared with

Where necessary for the stated purpose, information may be shared with installation and survey partners, equipment manufacturers and distributors, DNOs, certification and consumer-protection bodies, warranty and insurance providers, finance providers selected by the customer, IT and hosting suppliers, professional advisers, regulators, law-enforcement bodies and dispute-resolution services.

REST does not sell personal information. A supplier receiving information must only use it for the authorised purpose and under appropriate confidentiality and data-protection arrangements.

6. Finance information

REST UK acts as a credit broker, not a lender. Where a customer asks to explore finance, information may be passed to an FCA-authorised lender or finance platform so it can assess eligibility, status and affordability. The lender is responsible for its own privacy notice and credit decision. REST does not guarantee acceptance.

7. How long information is kept

REST keeps information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose, legal obligations and the ability to support the customer or defend a claim. In general:

  • unconverted website enquiries are normally reviewed for deletion after 24 months of inactivity;
  • unsuccessful installer, supplier or recruitment applications are normally reviewed after 12 months;
  • contracts, financial and core installation records may be retained for at least six years after the relevant relationship or accounting period;
  • certification, warranty, safety and system-support records may be retained for the useful life of the system or applicable warranty where needed;
  • marketing preferences and suppression records may be retained to respect an opt-out.

Different periods may apply where law, regulation, insurance, certification, warranty or an active dispute requires longer retention.

8. International services and security

Some technology suppliers may store or access information outside the UK. Where this happens, REST will seek to use an appropriate transfer mechanism and contractual protection. REST uses proportionate administrative and technical measures to protect information, but no online transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.

9. Your information rights

Subject to the law and any applicable exemptions, individuals may have rights to be informed, request access, correct inaccurate information, request erasure or restriction, object to certain processing, receive portable information and complain about automated decisions. Marketing consent can be withdrawn and direct marketing can be objected to at any time.

Contact REST using the details above. REST may need to verify identity before acting on a request. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

10. Website terms

This website provides general information about REST services. It is not a survey, final system design, quotation, guarantee of savings, offer of credit or substitute for professional advice. Product availability, finance, tariffs, grants, export payments, generation and savings can change and are confirmed only in the relevant written documents.

You may view and print website material for personal use. REST branding, page design, text, images and other content must not be copied, republished or commercially reused without permission, except where the law permits.

You must not misuse the website, attempt unauthorised access, introduce malicious code, scrape personal data or interfere with availability. Links to third-party websites are provided for convenience; REST is not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded. Subject to that, REST is not responsible for loss caused by reliance on general website content rather than the final written project documents. These terms are governed by English law, with the consumer jurisdiction rights applicable in Scotland or Northern Ireland preserved where relevant.

11. Changes to this notice

REST may update this page when services, suppliers, legal requirements or website technologies change. The updated date will be shown at the top. Material changes should also be brought to affected people's attention where required.
